ABOUT US

Brown Babies n’ Books is a Brooklyn-based, community-driven literacy nonprofit dedicated to building legacy through literacy, representation, and community. We create inclusive, culturally rooted spaces where babies, children, and families—especially BIPOC families—can see themselves reflected in the stories they read and the communities they belong to.

Through storytimes, sensory play, author collaborations, and community gatherings, we celebrate Black and Brown voices in children’s literature while supporting early literacy, family wellness, and intergenerational connection. Our programming centers joy, culture, and belonging—because representation matters from the very beginning.

Upcoming Events

Join us for our largest family literacy celebration to date—an immersive, multi-sensory experience inspired by The Snowy Day. Families can enjoy live storytelling, music and movement, dance performances, interactive play stations, and a curated Literacy Village featuring local authors, bookstores, and community partners.

This free, family-friendly event kicks off Black History Month by honoring storytelling, imagination, and the power of seeing ourselves reflected in books and community spaces.
